Knit Along: The Nor’easter Cardigan

My progress as of May 4

WHEN: 2 – 4 p.m. Mondays at Fleece Boutique,
6464 E. Northwest Hwy, Ste 330, Dallas, TX 75214
COST: $3.00 per session

Our KAL started April 30th, using the pattern “Nor’easter” by Thea Colman. The six of us are working on the first section — which is knitting the sleeves — and our goal is to have them done by our next meeting. I think I might like knitting the sleeves first to get it over with… (my least favorite part of knitting a sweater!)

LINK TO PATTERN: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/noreaster

SKILLS NEEDED TO PARTICIPATE:

Knitting and purling, cabling, increasing and decreasing. This is not a lesson on cabling.  It is a supported KAL with me and everyone else sharing tips and suggestions.

TENTATIVE SCHEDULE:

APRIL 30: Have one finished stockinette sample swatch done. (The pocket is a good swatch). it would be great if you also finished the cable panel swatch, otherwise, we will work on the cable panel today. If substituting yarn, a heather, a tweed, a solid or semisolid yarn in worsted weight works best. I do not suggest anything drapey, heavy or variegated. Webs has a great price on Mad Tosh Vintage right now. If you’re interested here is the link. Swatches should be washed and blocked for accurate measurement. I will take a look at your swatch and measure it for gauge as a comparison to your measurements, if you want. Once gauge is determined, we will start on the sleeves.

MAY 7: Have sleeves finished if possible. We will start on the next section, the body ribbing.

TBD: The rest of the schedule TBD. This is a tentative schedule, but my goal is to have this KAL finished by the end of the day, June 25th of close to that day. I leave for the summer July 1st and won’t be back until early September.

Please submit a request below if you’re interested.

CLASS: Learn to Knit & Purl Continental (Picking) Style

WHEN: Scheduled by request
COST: $20.00 per group session; $35.00 for private session.  Sessions last 1.5 hours
Supplies Needed
• Size 6/4mm knitting needle, straight or circular is fine
• Worsted weight (#4) yarn. A cotton or cotton blend works best for wash cloths. That being said, wool and wool blends are a little easier to manage when learning new techniques. The choice is yours. Fleece sells Berroco “Modern Cotton” and is nice to work with. That’s what I’ll be using.
Many of my students tell me they would like to learn to knit continental style, also known as “picking style. ” Using the washcloth pattern pictured here, I will show you the continental knit stitch, and 3 different ways to purl continental style.
